The Relaxation E ect in Dissipative Relativistic Fluid Theories

چکیده
The dynamics of the uid elds in a large class of causal dissipative uid theories is studied. It is shown that the physical uid states in these theories must relax (on a time scale that is characteristic of the microscopic particle interactions) to ones that are essentially indistinguishable from the simple relativistic Navier-Stokes descriptions of these states. Thus, for example, in the relaxed form of a physical uid state the stress energy tensor is in e ect indistinguishable from a perfect uid stress tensor plus small dissipative corrections proportional to the shear of the uid velocity, the gradient of the temperature, etc.

Abstract In the causal theory of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics, there are conditions on the equation of state and other thermodynamic properties such as the second-order coefficients of a fluid that need to be satisfied to guarantee that the fluid perturbations propagate causally and obey hyperbolic equations. The second-order coefficients in the causal theory, which are the relaxatio...
متن کاملRelativistic thermodynamics
A generally relativistic theory of thermodynamics is developed, based on four main physical principles: heat is a local form of energy, therefore described by a thermal energy tensor; conservation of mass, equivalent to conservation of heat, or the local first law; entropy is a local current; and non-destruction of entropy, or the local second law. A fluid is defined by the thermostatic energy ...
